Shinny is set in an ordinary town in Quebec around the time of the 1995 Referendum. The story follows a day in the lives of teenagers (13 to 15 years old) as they spend a day playing shinny at the local outdoor rink. An ordinary pick up game becomes heated and full of animosity when they decide to make the teams English versus French. The game becomes more aggressive as insults become more ethnically specific. The hockey game ends with a promise of more animosity for days to come.

1. Male / 41-50 yrs. / Caucasian.
Gordon – A father of two boys in his 40’s. He is strict, yet fair with his kids because their upbringing means everything to him. He never stops trying to teach his boys everything he can, but it sometimes gets annoying for his kids. He believes sports can teach a child more about life than religion. He is perfectly bilingual, but isn’t a separatist. Is known very well around the neighbourhood because he’ll start a conversation with anyone.
